I love this thing, and more importantly, I love the concept. Why are cars so damn big, anyway? And they only get bigger. The whole point of a car is to transport your ass from point A to point B, so what’s the point of a 5500 pound boat? If this little thing had an electric motor and about triple the power, it’d be an efficient and fun rocket. You could slap an extra wheel on there, and maybe even rig up a cheap iPod dock and air conditioning unit. That might bring the weight to a ghastly 300 pounds though.

Another Top Gear challenge! This time the guys have 1500 pounds (~$3000 USD) to find a Porsche which must be driven and tested with various challenges.

Top Gear takes a 512 horsepower Cayenne Turbo S across a rough off-road stretch in Cypress, Greece, trying to beat a Red Devil parachutist that jumps out of a helicopter 10,000 feet above, wearing a flying squirrel suit.

The challenge: take 100 pounds (about $200) and buy a street legal car that’s worthy enough to put on the road. Drive these beaters about 200 miles from London to Manchester and back again, being scored for gas mileage and reliability. Then take the cars onto a track for various performance metrics including braking, acceleration, and cornering. Finally you crash test the cars into a wall to determine their durability and safety.

It’s pretty amazing what you get for the money buying these old Rovers, Audis, and Volvos in London. It would be really fun to try an American version of this. I’m down if anyone’s interested.
